Auger, Paul
Paul Auger was born in 1945 in Athabasca, British Columbia. He is Kwagiulth on his fathers'' side and Cree on his mothers'' side. Paul began to carve in 1957 at the age of twelve. Like most boys his age growing up in a native community, he was fascinated by the carvings and the legends they depicted. When his school offered a carving class, he jumped at the chance to actively take part in his culture. Paul's grandfather continued to teach him the traditional style of carving when the class was finished. He was involved in a large totem pole project with Alex Weir (Alert Bay), Kim Washburn (Haida), Dallas Hunt (Kwakwakaw' wakw). The rest, as they say, is history.
