Jacobson, Jonathan

Jonathan Jacobson is a member of the Kwakwakaw’wakw First Nation, originating from Kingcome Inlet, BC.

He now lives in Fort Rupert, a small town on Vancouver Island. Jonathan clearly loves his art and loves to experiment with contemporary colors but also focuses on the tradition and history of his peoples.

Jonathan is known for carving large pieces of art, mainly masks (his biggest known so far is over 5ft. large Crooked Beak Mask and Hamatsa Raven's).

Jonathan always decorates his masks with lots of cedar bark (he harvests those himself) which makes them easy recognizable as one of his pieces. Besides his masks, he is well known for carvings of wall panels and sometimes he's also carving model totem poles. He is known to only work with red or yellow cedar.
