John, Jimmy

Jimmy John was a member of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation. He was a  very well known and liked master carver who died in 1986 at the age of 114. He was a direct descendent of Chief Maquinna of the Nootka people who first greeted Captain Cook when the first Englishmen visited Vancouver Island. He was a carver of totem poles, masks, and silver jewelry and his son Norman John and his grand daughter R. Elsie John continues his tradition.
