Peters, Joe Jr. (1959 - 1994)
Joe Peters Jr. (1959 – 1994) is a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations, originating from Alert Bay, a small village on an island next to Vancouver island. He started carving at a very young age (6), mainly self-taught but he definitely learned a lot by watching his grandfather Jack James. He later also credits Dwayne Simeon to help him understand the basic techniques of carving. He was influenced by Beau Dick and Russell Smith. During his career, Joe worked with Tony Hunt and John Livingston in Victoria on Vancouver Island. He sadly passed away in 1994 but his art lives on and is highly sought after and collected worldwide.
