Well, look at this one..... what an incredible piece by Alfred Robertson, Master Artist from the Kwakwakaw' wakw First Nation
THUNDERBIRD with Whale spirit - it's HUGE!!! In one image I'm placing a bottle of wine next to it so it's easier to visualize the size (no, the wine is not included :o)....)
Solid piece of cedar!!!
Measurements: 37" / 3.1 ft. tall, 13" wide, 3" thick (94 x 33 x 8 cm)
So very impressive. Please have a close look at the image provided that shows the piece standing on the fireplace mantle. The carvings is clearly recognizable as one of Alfred's Masterpieces. The cuts are extremely deep, the painting is traditional, soft stain used, polished. Carved in the front, signed at the back - you could hang it on your wall, or just keep it standing by itself - it definitely is a piece to impress (I guarantee your neighbor's don't have anything like it..;o)
Meaning: The Thunderbird symbolizes supernatural power and is believed to be the dominating force behind all of natures doings. It's a mythical creature and only the most prestigious and powerful Chiefs are allowed to have the Thunderbird as a crest especially among the Kwagiulth, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Coast Salish people.
