Beautiful ARTICULATED RAVEN Model MASK by master artist David Mungo Knox from the Kwakwakaw' wakw First Nations
The painting is very clean and powerful while using only black and white. The beak opens, the cedar bark is applied all around, it does show some minor losses and breaks on some of the bark's which does take nothing away from this absolutely fabulous and authentic piece of art. It's signed on the inside, prepared for ceiling and wall hanging, hanger already attached. Very nice piece, not new, it's one of David's earlier Masks. It does show some minor signs of gentle handling/aging.
Measurements: 15" x 5" x 3 1/2" (38 x 12.5 x 9 cm) wood only, not including the cedar bark!
Meaning: The Raven is known to be the transformer, trickster and creator. In the Kwakwaka'wakw culture the Raven is known as the messenger of the sky and famous for being a somewhat mischievous glutton. He's always out to please himself and to have a good time. He's very adventurous.
