Lidded BEAR Bentwood style BOX, by the Kwakiulth First Nation female master artist Sarah Robertson

The little bentwood box is carved all around, on all 4 sides, the painting in powerful black and red against the gorgeous yellow of the wood, so clean with very deep lines. The expression and detailing in the bear itself is gorgeous. It's signed underneath.  Sarah is fully hand crafting these boxes, they are bent on 3 corners and glued on one corner (you can see the glue a little from the outside - please have a close look at the images). The box is signed underneath.

Measurements: height: 9", lid is 7 1/4" x 7 1/4"

Meaning: The Bear is a symbol for power, courage, physical strength and leadership. Warrior's e.g. are known to wear bear claw necklaces which meant protection. In Haida culture the Bear is referred to as "Elder Kinsman" and was treated like a high ranking guest.
