Gorgeous solid piece of wood from the cedar tree - beautiful, clean, very impressive
majestic TOTEM POLE, showing the THUNDERBIRD above the BEAR by master artist Bear Doug Horne from the Coast Salish First Nation
Easy recognizable as one of Doug's pieces of art - so powerful and elegant at the same time - this piece has such a great presence - not only through his size but also through the vibrant painting on this bright, clean wood, showing nice natural grains - you won't find a flaw in this piece - Doug really paid so much attention to details and clean lines of the carving and the painting - simply superb!!!

Meaning: The THUNDERBIRD symbolizes supernatural power and is believed to be the dominating force behind all of natures doings. It's a mythical creature and only the most prestigious and powerful Chiefs are allowed to have the Thunderbird as a crest especially among the Kwagiulth, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Coast Salish people. The BEAR is a symbol for power, courage, physical strength and leadership. Warrior's e.g. are known to wear bear claw necklaces which meant protection. In Haida culture the Bear is referred to as "Elder Kinsman" and was treated like a high ranking guest.
