Beautiful and LARGE

LOON Mask

A real gorgeous piece of Indigenous Art by master artist and Hereditary Chief David Mungo Knox from the Kwakiulth First Nation.

Cedar, traditional colors, lots of cedar bark. Very nice expression, the wings are decorated with copper, David paid so much attention to detail - The eyes are cut out and also overlaid with copper. This is a LARGE piece - the images don't do it justice. Very clean lines, deep carving, everything you can ask for in a Mask from the First Nations. Richly adorned with cedar bark. Signed at the back. Since wood is always moving, a start of a natural crack behind the head of the loon was caught by the artist while working on it and he stabilized it right away, so there is no danger and nothing is visible from front. The mask is prepared for wall hanging. Just a really incredible piece by an incredible artist.

Measurements: total: 30" wide, 18" tall, 12" deep
