Superb piece of Jewelry from the First Nations of the Pacific Northwest
Sterling Silver Thunderbird pendant - with gold eye
If I would have to guess, I think it's a piece by Noel Brown - but I can't confirm that since it's not signed and it's an older piece. Either way, it's absolutely an incredible piece of Art, hand made, the expression and the lines are beautiful, powerful, just a piece to impress and clearly made by a master of this art. The Thunderbird has a golden eye which makes it even more outstanding. It's made to be worn as a pendant (chain is not included) but it also cold be worn as a brooch. It does show some minor signs of gentle handling but only at the back of the piece, have a look, I'm providing close-ups.
Measurements: 2" x 2" (5 x 5 xm)
Meaning: The Thunderbird symbolizes supernatural power and is believed to be the dominating force behind all of natures doings. It's a mythical creature and only the most prestigious and powerful Chiefs are allowed to have the Thunderbird as a crest especially among the Kwagiulth, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Coast Salish people.
