What a beautiful piece of Art by master artist Jackson Robertson, a member of the Tsawataienuk First Nation (Kwakwakaw'wakw) from Kingcome Inlet, BC.
Highest quality carving, so rich in expression, it looks like the little frog is ready to jump/fly. In the early days, the story of the "flying frog" came out of a lake in Tsimshian territory, together with frog woman to bestow supernatural power on the frog clan and to confer high status - these later were seen all the way down into the Kwakiulth territory. The carving is so deep, thick piece of cedar. It looks great hanging on the wall but it looks even better just standing e.g. on your fireplace mantle. It's carved in the front, signed at the back. It's an older piece but in excellent condition, showing very minor signs of aging on the fur decoration... just a gorgeous piece
