What a find!!!! YOU JUST DON'T SEE these kind of poles these days. Please have a close look at the details in this Totem... and think about how many hours the artist must have worked
ont his piece, so much love and attention to details...
Masterfully hand carved solid cedar Model Totem Pole from the Nootka (Nuuh-chah-Nulth First Nations) - Williams Family
This pole is in total almost 3 ft tall (35"), the pole itself is 5" x 4", the wings span 21" (89 x 13 x 10, wings 53.5 cm)
It's an older piece of art and does show some minor signs of gentle handling on the back rim of the Thunderbirds head, not visible from front, the pole is in excellent shape
Just incredible how many characters have been carved into this piece. As many of the older poles crafted by the Williams Family - it's not signed, so I can not confirm which family member
actually carved it - but it clearly is easy recognizable as one of the old master artists (Wesley, Wilson, Harry Sr., Harry T., RAYMOND etc) - I won't speculate - I'll leave it up to you
Enjoy the images....
