What an amazing piece - please really have a close look at the quality of this little pendant
BEAR FRONTLET - pendant
by master artist John Henderson from the Campbell River Band. You truly don't find these miniature pieces anymore, not in this quality. This piece was just as much, if not more, work than a large frontlet. The inlays of the abalone all around the bear, the inlays in the eyes, the teeth and the claws of the bear are masterfully done. You can see that John had many years of experience and the best teachers, combined with a lot of talent for this artwork. This piece is dated 1998, it's carved out of Yew wood. Has 2 blue trade beads on the leather band
This piece is a true gem! A treat for every collector - very RARE!!!
Signed at the back, comes iwth leather band
Measurements: 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" x 1 1/2" (6.5 x 4.5 x 4 cm)
Meaning: The Bear is a symbol for power, courage, physical strength and leadership. Warrior's e.g. are known to wear bear claw necklaces which meant protection. In Haida culture the Bear is referred to as "Elder Kinsman" and was treated like a high ranking guest.
