Silas Coon, clearly a master of this art just delivered this beautiful
Sisiutl - or Sea Serpent
wall art carving. He spent a long time working on it - carved it in such great detail, then stained the wood in a dark brown which accentuates the natural grain of the wood. Once that was finished, he started painting in his favorite copper color - and it's a great choice. It just makes the presence of it even more powerful and outstanding. Made and prepared for wall hanging, signature at the back.

Measurements: 48" x 7 1/2" x 3/4" (122 x 19 x 2 cm)- This piece has 59 pieces of abalone inlays!!!!!! It shows the Komokwa on the head of the Serpent and on each end a Crane in the serpent's mouth's.
Meaning: The Sisiutl is a symbol for healing power and magic. It's closely associated with war and strength, the Sisiutl is known to be invulnerable and to provide protection from harm. The Sisiutl is one of the most powerful crests, and mythological creatures in the mythology of the Kwakwaka'wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth and various other Tribes and figures prominently in their art, dances and songs.
