Thunderbird by master artist Brian Bob, a member of the Nootka (Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation)
richly inlaid, stained in a washed reddish ochar, gorgeous and unusual color, hand carved in superb quality, thick piece of Sitkus Spruce. The Thunderbird shows the salmon symbol in it's wings and in the body. The size is very impressive, the inlaid pieces of Abalone are a beautiful contrast to the red, they really stand out. The carving lines are deep, clean and very detailed. This is a thick piece of wood - solid and powerful! Made and already prepared for wall hanging, hanger attached, signed at the back.
Measurements: 31 1/2" x 11" x 1 3/4" (80 x 28 x 4.5 cm)
Meaning: The Thunderbird is a mythical creature and only the most prestigious and powerful Chiefs are allowed to have the Thunderbird as a crest especially among the Kwagiulth, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Coast Salish people.
