Gorgeous piece of Art by Charlie George, a well known artist and member of the Heiltsuk First Nation -
3D Salmon (carved on both sides) on Salmon base
Very nice piece of true Indigenous Art. Very clean yellow wood (not sure what kind, I think pine or spruce), fully hand carved, the body of the Salmon has a little salmon on it's belly, The big Salmon can easy be taken off the base, signed underneath the base. Just a beautiful piece to start a collection - or, it makes a beautiful and special gift. It's gorgeous. Please have a close look at the images - I'm providing close-ups. The slightly darker spots are natural discolorations in the wood.
Measurements: Total height: 12" (30.5 cm), Salmon sculpture itself is 16 1/2" x 6" x 2" (42 x 15 x 5 cm), salmon base is 13" x 5 1/2" (33 x 14 cm)
Meaning: The Salmon symbolizes prosperity, renewal and fertility. They are one of the most important and highest respected animals of all since they have been the primary food source from the beginning of time to the Northwest Coast First Nations.
