Gorgeous! Highest Quality! This is a great centerpiece and makes every entrance or room - it's so impressive and powerful!!!
Thunderbird by master artist Brian Bob, a member of the Nootka (Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation)
richly inlaid, stained in a washed reddish ochar, gorgeous and unusual color, hand carved in superb quality, thick piece of Sitkus Spruce. The size is very impressive, the inlaid pieces of Abalone are a beautiful contrast to the red, they really stand out. The carving lines are deep, clean and very detailed. This is a thick piece of wood - solid and powerful! Made and already prepared for wall hanging, hanger attached, signed at the back. For full disclosure, the artist restored a small piece on the head of the thunderbird - it's not visible from the front and was done before it was painted, you can see it a little bit at the back.
Measurements: 28" x 15 1/2" x 1" (71 x 39 x 2.5 cm)
Meaning: The Thunderbird is a mythical creature and only the most prestigious and powerful Chiefs are allowed to have the Thunderbird as a crest especially among the Kwagiulth, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Coast Salish people.
