Unique, rare, traditional - another powerful piece of art by Rupert Jeffrey
Gitxsan WOLF PRINCE with warrior braids
Gorgeous new mask - so very powerful, truly stunning and incredible piece of art. Red cedar, old growth of 2200 years old, fallen from the Cost Salish territory.
In the artist's words: "The wolf design in the forehead of the mask above the eyebrows distinguished hair, incorporated in the hidden design. It has the wolf body and the front paw and the hind leg paw as the hair waves across it's face. This is to honor and show old way respect of our customs as young prince, carrying on his journey to be a wise man soon to be history of the Skeena River people, this is one of many symbols in a portrait mask showing what you know without speaking of it. "
Rupert told me that he applied three layers of wax in order to find the perfect balance. The wax truly accentuates the natural grain of the wood and brings out the colors even more. The expression in this piece is truly special and strong!
