Another beautiful piece by Alfred Robertson from Kingcome Inlet, from the Kwakiulth First Nation
Hand carved and hand painted RAVEN Mask -prepared for wall hanging. It's articulated - rich expression!!!
Carved by Alfred Robertson, adorned with lots of traditional cedar bark which is so much work to collect and treat and cut before it can be used, the beak can be closed and opened through a thin lining. Just think about the work and many hours the artist put into this piece. It's also adorned with colored dark red cedar rope. Nice clapping sound!! All around a fabulous piece of true Indigenous Art from the First Nations of North America. Signed on the inside.
Measurements total: 19" long, 19" tall, 4" wide incl. cedar, the wood on the raven itself is 19"x7"x4"
Meaning: The Raven is known to be the transformer, trickster and creator. In the Kwakwaka'wakw culture the Raven is known as the messenger of the sky and famous for being a somewhat mischievous glutton. He's always out to please himself and to have a good time. He's very adventurous.
