Killer Whale, inlaid with 5 pieces of Abalone, by master artist Silas Coon from the Kwakiulth First Nations

wall art carving. Carved it it such great detail, then stained the wood in a dark brown which accentuates the natural grain of the wood. Once that was finished, he started painting in his favourite copper color - and it's a great choice. It just makes the presence of it even more powerful and outstanding. AND - it's inlaid with little pieces of Abalone. Made and prepared for wall hanging, signature at the back. 

Silas Coon is a a member of the Kwakiutlh First Nation and clearly a master of this art who loves the tradition and history of his people. You can see that he had the best teachers throughout his carreer incl. George Hunt Jr., Beau Dick.... more detailed biography below.
