Here is a beautiful and authentic and detailed and unique
hand carved cedar WILD WOMAN pendant
I really like and appreciate the quality of this piece. It's very well carved and the artist captured the expression perfectly. It's adorned with cedar bark, and shows powerful painting in black and red, very clean lines in carving and painting. The artist signed by his Indigenous name on the inside of the little mask, I don't have additional information on the artist. The piece is dated 2005 but is in absolutely excellent condition. Have a look....
Measurements: 3" tall without cedar bark, 5" including cedar bark, 2" wide, 2" deep (7.5/13 x 5 x 5 cm)
Meaning: Dzunukwa or Wild Woman - Her appearance is that of a naked, black in color, old monster with long pendulous breasts. She is also described as having bedraggled hair. In masks and totem pole images she is shown with bright red pursed lips because she is said to give off the call "Hu!" It is often told to children that the sound of the wind blowing through the cedar trees is actually the call of Dzunuḵ̓wa.
