Mother Bear with cub, 15 inlayed pieces of Abalone, by Silas Coon, clearly a master of this art

As always, Silas carved this piece in such great detail, then stained the wood in a dark brown which accentuates the natural grain of the wood. Once that was finished, he started painting in his favorite copper color - and it's a great choice. It just makes the presence of it even more powerful and outstanding. Made and prepared for wall hanging, carved in front, signature at the back.

Silas Coon is a a member of the Kwakiutlh First Nation and clearly a master of this art who loves the tradition and history of his people. You can see that he had the best teachers throughout his career incl. George Hunt Jr., Beau Dick.... more detailed biography below.
