Another detailed and superb piece, small but a real gem!!! by North American Kwakiulth First Nation artist Gino Seward
BEAR - art carving, prepared for wall hanging
Beautiful carving, carved in front, signed at the back. The details and depth in the carving is truly incredible, easy recognizable as one of Gino's pieces of art - he has developed his own style of carving, doesn't do much sanding which is nice, you can clearly see the chip marks of the knife. Stained to accentuates the grain in the woo. He also painted this one with red and black.
Measurements: 9" x 4" x 1/2"
Meaning: The Bear: The Bear is a symbol for power, courage, physical strength and leadership. Warrior's e.g. are known to wear bear claw necklaces which meant protection. In Haida culture the Bear is referred to as "Elder Kinsman" and was treated like a high ranking guest
