Truly exquisite Model. You just don't find these anywhere else anymore. There just aren't many artists who have the patience and talent to master these kind of tribal miniature art pieces.
Medicine Man Rattle, depicting the Raven at the back, the Chief above, the Kolus in the front and the Wild Man underneath, presented on a mirrored base by master artist Silas Coon from Kingcome Inlet, a member of the Kwakiulth First Nations who credit's his cousin Beau Dick and George Hunt Jr. as his teachers and mentors.
To master this kind of art you have to be so patient, gentle and just so talented. Silas proofs to be all of it and combined with the historical knowledge and love for his peoples - the result is just astounding.
Silas was working over years on this one. The details are just so amazing. NOTHING is glued... all hand carved and cut out!!! Just think about the quality of the craftsmanship. Did you see the inlays of Abalone (mother of pearl)? The rattle has a very soft sound. Please have a very close look at it to really appreciate the extreme details and quality in the carving as well as in the painting. You will not find any flaws in this piece (the only minor flaw you'll find is in the edge on the mirror) - it really is - perfection!
Handwritten by the artist underneath the base: "A rattle for a medicine man, who heals the sick people"
Measurements: rattle: 7" x 2 1/2" x 1 1/2", base 7 1/2" x 3 1/4", combined height 5"
