Another masterpiece by Kwakiulth artist Silas Coon just arrived:
Very attractive BEAVER Miniature art carving, could be worn as frontlet in ceremony or framed on wall, or even as pendant.
so richly inlaid with abalone, the details are unbelievable on this piece. The carving is so close to perfect, it's clearly done by a master of this art. You just don't find this kind of Quality out there. I'm honored and grateful to present Silas' art - and - it's always just a real pleasure to meet with him and to chat about the history of his peoples and to hear all the stories of his upbringing. He credit's his cousin Beau Dick and also learned techniques and the skills of carving from George Hunt Jr.
Today, Silas specializes in the carving of miniatures - his pieces are highly sought after by private Collectors and Galleries all over the world - and with this quality, can only be seen as a great investment!
This piece is carved out, almost 3D, the little beaver is carved all around - nothing is glued, it's fully carved and cut-out from one piece. The back is also painted and finished and of course signed by the artist. Did you see that even the eyes and the nose and the ears of the beaver are inlaid - with tiny bits of abalone? so much work involved in this little Gem!
Measurements: 3 1/2" x 2 3/4" x 1 1/2"
Meaning: The Beaver is a symbol for persistence and determination. He is creative, stubborn, a very hard worker and understands the importance of cooperation. He teaches us to unify individual talents to reach great goals, he also symbolizes hard work and he will not quit until the job is done.
