Truly remarkable 46" Eagle Spirit Transformation mask by Sammy Dawson.
This 46" Human - Eagle transformation masterpiece by Kwakwaka'wakw First Nations artist Sammy Dawson is a spectacular piece of true Indigenous Art! Have a look at the pictures - I think they speak for themselves. The mask is prepared with handles, connected through linings which do open and close the beak of the eagle. These masks are so important in the Ceremonies’ of the First Nations on the Pacific Northwest and it's an absolute pleasure to see these kind of masks danced... and it takes a lot of practice to actually manage it. They are so powerful. Starting off as an eagle, dancing and crouching around the fire in the big houses, then slowly opening up the beak to show the human face, combined with the spectacular drumming and singing during the dances, it's just breathtaking.
This piece is hand carved from cedar, decorated with feathers and lots of traditional cedar bark. The painting is SUPERB!!! This piece is signed at the back and made and prepared for wall hanging. Just a very special and impressive piece - again, very hard to find and not many of them are available on the market!!!
