Here is another masterpiece by First Nations artist Randy Stiglitz
Shaman Eagle Transforming
Absolutely mesmerising piece of Art. An Randy carved this mask out of one solid piece of wood (alder) - the Eagle is NOT clued or screwed on top - it's fully carved out. Same with the wings on each side, depicting the wings of the eagle - not added, they are carved out. THAT is a lot of work!!! Then please have a look at the Eagles' body surrounding the face, I think it's superb. The eyes of the Eagle and the Shaman are inlaid with copper which just tremendously adds to the expression. Then the horsehair, light brown above the wings, black on the top of the eagle. The painting, as usual, close to perfection. Just another Wow-piece by an artist who clearly loves his art and pays so much attention to details. Fabulous.
Measurements: 14" tall, 12" wide, 6" deep (36 cm x 31 cm x 15 cm)
Meaning: The eagle is sharing it's powers with the Shaman. The eagle is known to serve as a messenger between humans and the Creator. Because eagles are consideres such a powerful medicine animal, the hunting or killing of eagles is forbidden. In some Northwest Coast native tribes, the floor used to be dusted with eagle down at potlatches and other ceremonies as a powerful symbol of peace and hospitality.
