What a master piece! Silas delivered just another gem!!
Wooden Thunderbird Cross with Bent box Wolf crest and Copper design
Fully hand carved, hand painted, inlaid and designed by Silas Coon from Kingcome Inlet, a member of the Kwakwaka'wakw First Nations.
Small but exceptional high quality, TRULY unbelievable craftsmanship. This little piece is inlaid with 12 pieces of Abalone (Mother of pearl). It's depicting the Thunderbird above the bentwood box with wolf crest. The bentwood box used to be placed in the early days on top of totem poles, when a loved one moved on to meet the creator, so this design is very important and meaningful. It shows everything, including the so important copper, used in copper-breaking ceremonies, showing the wealth and importance of families and of course the most powerful bird of all, the Thunderbird, on top of it.
The carving is as always, just exceptional (for full disclosure: It does have an artist restoration on the back but Silas made sure that it's not visible from the front, please see image). Silas spent so many hours on this little gem - it's unique and very special, you will never find another one like it!!
