Very unusual find, a treat for every serious native art collector, rare.
Rattling Talking Stick - beautiful sound, hand carved, hand painted by Ronald Thomas, a member of the Nootka (Nuuh-chah-nulth) First Nations, dated 2009, signed at the back
These Talking sticks you see quite often, but I never came across one that is a rattle at the same time. It clearly makes a point, make yourself heard...
The design and the carving is marvelous. On the upper half you see 4 (FOUR) Killer whales with Eagle spirit's in their tail, on the lower half you see the salmon run, beautiful detailed little salmon all around the stick. In the middle, dividing the whales from the salmon is the frog, inlaid with Abalone. Truly unique and brilliant design. This piece is not new and does show some minor signs of gentle use and aging, some scratches - please have a close look. It's a beautiful piece with so much character.
