Owl mask, with frog
red cedar, designed, hand carved, hand painted by John Henry Hunt from the Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiulth) First Nations of Vancouver Island, clearly a master artist.
John Henry's style and quality of carving is truly marvelous. It does show his love and talent for this art in every piece of his. Just have a look at the carving lines, please - they are extremely deep and extremely clean, as is the painting. He chose vibrant colors blue, green and red, combined with some grey accents - adorned the face with the traditional cedar bark and even the cedar bark is partially painted.
The expression in the owl's face is simply wonderful and...well, cute! This is a real gem and just a fabulous addition to any serious native art collection.
