Masterpiece - early works of Paul Joseph from the Squamish First Nations (Coast Salish)
Very impressive and highest quality wall art carving, showing the
Free standing: Warrior in a blanket wearing a Thunderbird hat. The blanket shows the Sun, Killer Whale and the Thunderbird
Just absolutely incredible craftsmanship - so clean, so detailed with beautiful expression in each character. The colors are vibrant, the wood truly clean and beautiful (just as a side note, the wood alone is so expensive now, the prices for wood went up tremendously).
This piece is signed and dated 1999. It does show some signs of gentle handling (please have a close look at the warrior's upper lip - tiny dent). The carving and colors are so powerful, rounded wood on one side - thick and solid piece of Art from the First Nations of the Pacific Northwest.
Measurements: 42" tall, 6 1/2" wide, 1 1/2" thick - so thick, it does stand on it's own and looks great on a fireplace mantle or wherever you see fit - it also comes with a hanger and is prepared for wall hanging. Carved in front, signed/dated at the back.
