WOLF MOON and TIDES OF THE OCEAN
by master artist Rupert Jeffrey, a proud member of the Gitxsan First Nation with many years of experience in this art.
Rupert truly is an exceptional artist. His pieces always show such incredible details. The moon, carved out of this piece of red cedar is mesmerizing, the white painted eyes, inlaid with abalone just really look at you! The rim shows the full body wolf on the upper right with waves of the ocean surrounding the moon, showing the tides. Both, wolf and Ocean are having a deep and powerful connection to the moon. The carving is just proving superb craftsmanship, so much so, only a master can manage.
On the lower left side in the rim you can see Rupert's signature - He also has signed this pieces with carved signature at the back, but have a look at his initials in the front - to carve the initials so beautiful for sure took a lot of time as well.
Measurements: 11" x 11 1/2" x 2 1/2"
Meaning: The Moon is associated with transformation since it controls the tides and illuminates the dark. It is seen as a guardian spirit. The Wolf represents loyalty, strong family ties, good communication, education, understanding and intelligence. Of all land animals, the Wolf has the strongest supernatural powers and is the most accomplished hunter. The Wolf is a very social and communicative creature; he uses body movement, touch and sound.
