Isn't this adorable??

Beautiful piece of authentic, hand carved, signed Indigenous art by Bear (Doug) Horne from the First Nations of the Pacific Northwest, Coast Salish.

This design is his family's crest and goes way back.

Winking OWL

so beautiful, solid piece of wood, washed light blue which still allows the wood and the grain to come through. The carving is as always close to perfection and the expression, well, judge for yourself.... I just love this piece.

Measurements: 23" tall, 13 1/2" wide. the wood is 5 1/2" thick, hollowed out a bit at the back.

Signed and dated by the artist at the back.

Meaning: Owls are very often seen as the bogeyman. The story goes that children have to be kept inside at night and are told not to cry too much because otherwise the owl may carry them away. Sometimes owls are said to carry messages from beyond the grave or deliver supernatural warnings to people. On the Northwest Coast, the owl is often used as a totem pole crest. It's also very often part of dances among the tribal dance traditions. Hearing owls hooting is considered an unlucky omen.

Note: USD amounts estimated based on Bank of Canada average exchange rate, updated weekly, Invoice in CAD, overseas shipping costs ($185 CAD) added at check-out.
