What an incredible piece of Art - I'll be adding lots of images, but they just don't do it justice...
White / Snowy Owl, designed, hand carved, hand painted and signed by master artist Bill Henderson from the Kwakwaka'wakw First Nation, member of the Wei Wai Kum First Nation in Campbell River, Pacific Northwest Coast of British Columbia.
Superb craftsmanship. Bill pays so much attention to details. You truly can see his love for the art and tradition. He painted the cedar in white, then "washed" the white before he added another layer of white and painted the design of the face. The wood still can be seen through the washed white and the eyes, please have a look, I think no matter from which angle you look at it, it's looking right back at you...Then the powerful red and black to beak and ears, beautiful. Bill added traditional cedar bark adorning the face.
Measurements: 14" tall, 11 1/2" wide, 7" deep
Meaning: The Owl is associated with the souls of ancestors and are viewed with highest respect. They symbolize wisdom, intuition and prophecies and sacred knowledge. The story goes that children have to be kept inside at night and are told not to cry too much because otherwise the owl may carry them away.
