What an incredible piece of Art - I'll be adding lots of images, but they just don't do it justice...
At'la'kwis - Hunter of the Woods with Raven, designed, hand carved, hand painted and signed by master artist Bill Henderson from the Kwakwaka'wakw First Nation, member of the Wei Wai Kum First Nation in Campbell River, Pacific Northwest Coast of British Columbia.
Superb craftsmanship. Bill pays so much attention to details. You truly can see his love for the art and tradition. The Hunters face is carved of red cedar while the raven on top of the mask is yellow cedar. The painting is close to perfection, the carving lines clean and just so detailed. You can clearly see the many years of experience in Bill's work. The mask is signed and prepared for wall hanging.
Measurements: 23" tall, 19" wide, 13" deep, the hunters face is 14" x 10" x 10"
Meaning: A long time ago, the raven was helping the Hunter to find food. Hunter was unable to find enough food to feed his peoples in the village. He was desperate and didn't want to see his peoples starving. Raven saw that and that's when Raven decided to help. He showed hunter the way and together they found enough food for everybody.
