Spring Salmon Moon by master artist Tim Paul from the Hesquiaht First Nation (Nootka)
In the words of the artist: "Sha-cumt- Moon of the migratory spring salmon after the sockeye salmon run up river, in seasons of all salmon running up river. This is the large spring salmon making way back to its parent stream
You can see the moon is surrounded by the large spring salmon, making their way back to their parent stream, the design is artistic and traditional, very powerful painting in black and white, The little creature on the forehead of the moon is krill, which is sent by the moon and feeding the whales and salmons.
Tim always tells a story with his pieces. This is truly powerful - very rich and as you can see, fully hand made, hand carved, hand painted, no machines used at all!!! Old red cedar, beautiful piece of wood. The moon's face is hollowed out of one piece of wood, it's not mounted on the top. Tim put so much work into his pieces. They are just marvelous and well worth it. It's just getting more and more difficult to find these kind of works. Old school, real, teaching of nature's ways and the circle of life. So important.
