Superb piece of true Indigenous art. Very detailed and highest quality

Killer Whale/Copper Dance Rattle by Johnathan Henderson from the Wai-Wei-Kum First Nations in Campbell River, Pacific Northwest Coast of British Columbia, Canada

These ceremonial dance rattles are very important and are used in any of the important ceremonies while performing dances and rituals. Johnathan is really paying so much attention to details. You can clearly see the chip marks throughout the piece. The carving lines are so clean. The rattle is carved in a form of the copper which is so important, then it shows the Killer whale in the front. Please have a close look at the Killer Whale's teeth and you'll see how much time and work he put into this piece. He used yellow cedar for the rattle and placed it in a red cedar base. It's signed underneath, dated 2023.

The rattle has a very powerful sound. I'm enclosing a video, but it really doesn't do it justice. Please have a listen.

Measurements: 11" x 5" x 2", base is 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"

Meaning: The "Copper" was used by the First Nations people as a form of money and wealth. It was made out of "Native" copper which was found in the land where they lived, and superficially resembled a shield. Coppers were beaten into shape and usually painted or engraved with traditional designs. Killer whale is a symbol for romance and harmony as Whales mate for life. The Whale is very family oriented and known to travel in large groups, never to be alone. They symbolize great luck and happiness, community and protection. They are a known to always be working together, take care of each other and to always help and protect each other.
