Another absolutely fabulous piece of Indigenous Art just arrived in our Gallery.
Raven Mask, articulated, decorated with aged, dark cedar bark, by Coast Salish artist Randy Stiglitz who works together with his wife Janice Morin (Cree Nation)
The Raven is articulated and makes a really nice clapping sound.
The Raven is decorated with a large aged cedar bark skirt and adorned with cedar rope. The painting is as usual just close to perfection, kept in traditional colors black, red and white - very powerful. The carving and the expression of the trickster Raven is marvelous. This is superb quality. The mask is prepared for wall hanging. Signed by both on the inside, dated 2023. Randy carved, Janice painted. Randy's biography is below, please also check out Janice's biography, it's provided under the "artist" tab. What a fabulous team!!!
Measurements: 18" long beak, 6 1/2" high, 7" wide (not including the cedar bark), total height incl. cedar is 35"
Meaning: The Raven is known to be the transformer, trickster and creator. In the Kwakwaka'wakw culture the Raven is known as the messenger of the sky and famous for being a somewhat mischievous glutton. He's always out to please himself and to have a good time. He's very adventurous.
Note: USD amounts estimated based on Bank of Canada average exchange rate, updated weekly, Invoice in CAD, overseas shipping costs $225 CAD added at check-out
