ATLAKUM GROUSE MASK (Winter ceremony)
with so much cedar bark ... fantastic piece by Coast Salish native artist Randy Stiglitz who works together with his partner Janice Morin on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada's Northwest Coast.
What a great expression! The colors chosen, black, brown dark red and orange on the white background, really powerful and vibrant, the painting as always, extremely clean and the cedar bark adorning the mask just adds to the beautiful look of it. Of course, being a grouse, it has the grown on top. This piece truly is impressive and it's very large and dominant. It has everything you could possibly be looking for in a piece of true Indigenous art. It's signed by both at the back, dated 2023.
Measurements: mask itself is 13" x 11" x 6", total height measured on cedar bark is approx. 39"
Meaning: The Grouse is a important mask and part of the Winter ceremonie. It dances around in small steps, a dance rattle in her hand, making lots of noise - then runs out of the house, just to return with each of the spirits that will participate in the ceremony.
Note: USD amounts estimated based on Bank of Canada average exchange rate, updated weekly, Invoice in CAD, overseas shipping costs $245 CAD added at check-out,
