OWL MOON mask
designed, hand carved, hand painted by John Henry Hunt from the Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiulth) First Nations of Vancouver Island, clearly a master artist.
It's always a pleasure to meet and chat with John Henry, such a kind and friendly soul - and so talented!! John Henry's style and quality of carving is truly marvelous. It does show his love for this art in every piece of his. Just have a look at the expression in this piece of northwest native American art from Vancouver Island. Extremely clean painting, the colors chosen are so balanced, soft and powerful at the same time. The artist adorned the rim of the moon with cedar bark rope, just adds a great frame to it.
This is a real gem and just a fabulous addition to any native art collection.
Measurements: 17" diameter, 4" deep
Meaning: The Owl is associated with the souls of the ancestors and are viewed with highest respect. They symbolize wisdom, intuition, prophecies and sacred knowledge. The Moon is associated with transformation since it controls the tides and illuminates the dark. It is seen as a guardian spirit
