another beautiful piece of Indigenous art just arrived in our native art gallery:
Starpeople mask by Hesquiath master artist Tim Paul
as always, meaningful, storytelling, authentic, hand carved, hand painted and designed by this very important artist of the Native American First Nations from the Northwest Coast of Canada.
The face is deeply carved out of ONE solid piece of red cedar, it's not mounted on top. Tim mastered this art a long time ago already, but he is still always putting so much work and love into each and every piece, always telling a story. This piece depicts the starpeople, in Tim's own words, written on the back of the mask:
"The starpeople we came from - qwa-awa-c-i Ktucut, the special race of people from out there"
Well, there you have it. It's depicting shiny stars in the deep black night sky, starpeople's origin, starpeople's home. The grain of the wood is fabulous, please have a close look at it. Tim hollowed the face out really deep. Another very powerful mask, very clean painting, strong colors, and the white around the eyes, really outstanding.
