51 1/2" large Sun Mask: Raven bringing the light, creating life

by worldwide renowned Indigenous artist Randy Stiglitz from the Coast Salish First Nation

who works together with his partner Janice Morin, also a well renowned Indigenous artist (Cree). They are working together for the last 30 years, designing and carving the most beautiful masks and sculptures.

Please have a close look at this sun mask – it’s just truly incredible – all the details.  It’s telling the story of the Raven who brought the light and with the light, life on mother earth was created. The salmon returns, feeding the animals and the people (shown on the rim). Four salmon are shown on the rim, humans above, receiving the food. The rays do show two eagles, feeding on salmon, male and female Bear with cub, also feeding on salmon, Sea Lions, Orca’s, 2 ray’s each – and the Salmon on the top ray.

The painting itself on this piece took months and it’s close to perfection, very very clean. The colors are very well chosen, the yellow is not to bright, Randy chose a soft, creamy yellow, the red and green color is strong and traditional, very well balanced together with the black. He is still showing the beauty of the wood throughout the piece.

The rays do fit perfectly in the slots opened in the rim. They are secured by wooden pegs, please have a look, I will be adding images shortly...
