Red cedar, hand carved by Indigenous artist Tim Alfred, a member of the Kwakiulth First Nation (Kwakwaka'wakw) from Vancouver Island.
Circular Moon Miniature Mask
Showing the Full Moon's face. Clean lines, detailed and beautiful. It's signed at the back. Great piece. the face is inlaid with little pieces of Abalone, then adorend with cedar bark rope. Dark red, images taken in sunlight and in shade. This piece also looks great in a nice frame, please see example images, frame is not included - but it also can be worn (see Tim wearing it, image provided). Signed at the back.
Measurements: 5" diameter
Meaning: The Moon is associated with transformation since it controls the tides and illuminates the dark. It is seen as a guardian spirit. The Salmon symbolizes prosperity, renewal and fertility. They are one of the most important and highest respected animals of all since they have been the primary food source from the beginning of time to the Northwest Coast First Nations.
