SUN Mask, coming direct from Kwakwakaw'wakw/Kwakiutl Indigenous artist and Hereditary Chief Calvin Hunt

Superb quality by a master of this art. A mask of this caliber is truly hard to find these days. Beautiful cedar, the face of the Sun is NOT mounted on top, it’s hand carved out of one large solid piece of red cedar. Stunning and rarely done these days! The craftsmanship is incredible. Very clean carving lines, the painting is close to perfection, all hand made and as always – guaranteed authentic (!) – Signed on the inside, coming directly from the artist himself. Calvin spent months working on this piece. The finish on the back is also professionally done, have a close look, I’m providing lots of images. Calvin used traditional colors.

The sun is present in all ceremonies, celebrations and potlaches, just so important - as it is to everybody on this planet.  

Measurements: total: 5 1/2 ft x 5 ft. (62” x 57” x 8” deep)

Meaning: The Sun symbolizes warmth, comfort, light and life. It owes healing powers and brings peace to the world. Released from a box by the Raven, the Sun Chief inhabited the sky and it was believed he could be reached by climbing a chain of arrows.
