Another masterpiece by a highly talented artist:

18” circular Mother Owl with Baby on top and wolf at the bottom

by Kwakiutl First Nation, Indigenous artist John Henry Hunt, originating from Alert Bay near Vancouver Island, Canada’s Pacific Northwest coast, British Columbia

Please have a close look to appreciate the quality and craftsmanship in this piece – truly incredible. He used vibrant colors, still showing the beautiful yellow color of the wood. Very powerful, very beautiful – this piece clearly makes every room. Just look at the deep carving lines, I’m providing close-ups, hopefully you can see the depth of the carving. The details and the expression is just fabulous. The little baby owl on top, learning from it’s mother.

John Henry adorned the thick piece of woor with the traditional cedar bark rope and feathers to give it a perfect frame. The moon is signed at the back, made and prepared for wall hanging, hanger already attached.

Measurements: 18” diameter, 2” thick

Meaning: Owls are associated with the souls of ancestors and are viewed with high respect. They symbolize wisdom, intuition and prophecies and sacred knowledge. The story goes that children have to be kept inside at night and are told not to cry too much because otherwise the owl may carry them away. Sometimes owls are said to carry messages from the beyond or deliver supernatural warnings to people.
