Beautiful piece, the perfect piece to start or add to your collection of Indigenous art:
Title: Hamatsa Ravens
by Randy Stiglitz, a member of the Coast Salish Nation, very well-known and highly sought after Indigenous artist. This is new and just came in. He signed and dated it on the inside, 2024.
It's a Model Mask, articulated, very detailed, superb carving and even though it's a smaller piece, he spent so much time on it. Please have a close look to see and appreciate all the details. The eyes are inlaid with Abalone, the beak of the larger raven is articulated, the little raven on top has its beak open. Both Ravens are adorned with cedar bark rope, the skirt is also made of cedar bark. Painted black wooden base. It could be hung on the wall as well, but I think it looks absolutely stunning on its base. I'm showing images of it standing on a fireplace mantle.
Measurements: Total height: 24", the larger raven itself is 15" (incl. ears) long, 5 1/2" high, 4" wide, the smaller one is 7 1/2" long, 3" tall, 2" wide, the base is 7" x 5 1/2"
Meaning: The Hamatsa Ceremony (Cannibal Dance Ceremony) plays a very important part in the history and legends of the Indigenous nations from the Pacific Northwest Coast First Nations. There are three birds part of the Hamatsa Dance. One is the Crooked Beak, the second is the Huk-Huk Bird and the third part are the Hamatsa Ravens.
