Impressive 31" cedar Model Totem Pole by Josh George, a member of the Squamish Nation (Coast Salish) from the Pacific Northwest Coast of British Columbia, Canada
This piece came in through a private collection, it's authentic, signed, hand carved, hand painted, and even though it's an older piece, dated 2002, it's in absolute fabulous condition. It's a quite massive piece, the images definitely don't do it justice.
The Pole shows the Eagle with wings open above the Killer Whale, with Eagle tail and Human face as the whale's blow hole. Very vibrant, yet traditional colors, beautiful clean painting and very deep carving lines and sanded. Beautiful carving, very powerful piece, the wings will be taken off for safe travels, easy to screw back on. Signed underneath the base.
Measurements: 31" tall, 28 1/2" wingspan, Pole 5" x 41/2", base 9 1/2" x 9 1/2"
Meaning: Eagles mate for life and are therefore also seen as a symbol of lasting love and dedication. It is told that the Eagle end their own life in despair when the mate is lost. Eagle feathers are used in the most important ceremonies, a display of respect, courage, Chieftainship and wisdom. The killer whale is a symbol for romance and harmony as Whales mate for life. The Whale is very family oriented and known to travel in large groups, never to be alone. They symbolize great luck and happiness, community and protection. They are known to always be working together, take care of each other and to always help and protect each other.
