RAVEN MOON Mask
This mask is truly outstanding. It's guaranteed authentic, hand carved, hand painted, inlaid, designed and signed by an artist who gained worldwide admiration over many years of carving. The mask is inlaid with lots of abalone. And it's carved out of ONE solid piece of wood, the face of the moon is NOT mounted on top - this shows it's truly superb quality. Please have a look, I'm enclosing an image from the back. Raven painted on each side, facing each other, surrounding the moon, The rim is adorned with the traditional cedar bark rope as well as decorated with cedar bark. The color is light blue-ish/gray - soft, yet powerful. The expression of the face is powerful and gentle, very nice!
Janice, Randy's wife and a highly sought after and very talented artist herself, painted this mask with so much love. The painting is close to perfection
Measurements total: 17" tall, 14" wide, 6" deep
Meaning: The Moon is associated with transformation since it controls the tides and illuminates the dark. It is seen as a guardian spirit. The Raven is known to be the transformer, trickster and creator. In the Kwakwaka'wakw culture the Raven is known as the messenger of the sky and famous for being a somewhat mischievous glutton. He's always out to please himself and to have a good time. He's very adventurous. One of the many legends is telling the story of the Raven, who stole the sun
