SALMON
Really gorgeous design. Everytime we meet, Shane surprises me with something new and different. I really love these latest designs. Of course, fully hand carved, hand painted and signed underneath the base.
Very clean carving lines and you can clearly see the knife marks, traditional colors and even the base is carved - have a look. This piece looks great on every fireplace mantle - Carved in front, beautiful red cedar left natural at the back, just different and special. Or if you are looking for the perfect gift idea.... here it is....
Measurements: 14 1/2" tall, the base is 7 1/2" x 5 1/2", 1" thick
Legend: Indigenous people from the Pacific Northwest Coast believed that Salmon were actually humans with eternal life who lived in a large house far under the ocean. In the Spring, they put on their Salmon disguises and offered themselves to the villagers as food. The tribes believed that when entire fish skeletons were returned to the sea, the spirits would rise again and change into Salmon people. In this way, the cycle could begin again the following year. Since the villagers feared that the Salmon people would not be treated respectfully by White people who had no knowledge of the taboos and regulations, they did not want to sell Salmon to the first White men.
