Thunderbird - chased copper art by Silas Coon, a member of the Kwakiutl First Nation, Kwakwaka'wakw from Alert Bay, Pacific Northwest Coast of British Columbia
These don't come up often. Silas did a few of these in the late 80's and early 90's. They are fabulous. It does show some minor signs of gentle aging (see left loer corner) but will look absolutely fabulous once framed.
Silas signature is on the lower right. Please have a close look to appreciate the details in Silas' work. He is so meticulous and simply - close to perfection.
Measurements: 15" x 12"
Meaning: The Thunderbird symbolizes supernatural power and is believed to be the dominating force behind all of nature’s doings. It’s a mythical creature and only the most prestigious and powerful Chiefs are allowed to have the Thunderbird as a crest especially among the Kwagiulth, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Coast Salish people.
